Kirkland Community


Kirkland is located 10 miles east of Seattle WA in the Eastside Community of cities. Kirkland is often described as the Eastside's most romantic town and its location on Lake Washington affords dramatic views of sunsets, the Seattle Skyline and the Olympic Mountains. Marina Park is part of the Downtown and provides a sandy beach, public marina and tour dock. During July and August enjoy Music in the Park concert series and during the holidays Marina Park is the focus for the Holiday Christmas Ship tours and Parade.

Downtown is a mix of upscale art galleries, boutiques and an eclectic mix of great restaurants. Outdoor cafes provide relaxed dining and plenty of people watching opportunities.

Kirkland has ample housing options and civic services, active community programs, convenient shopping, great schools and exciting entertainment. Businesses in Kirkland have the best of both worlds - easy access to major transportation routes, desirable office space and internationally known business partners.



Kirkland Culture


Kirkland is a suburban city infused with vitality and a young attitude where joggers, shoppers, business people and retirees all mingle along the boulevard. It's a town where conversation in coffee shops ends at 11 p.m., and then only under protest. It's a town where international corporate headquarters and small businesses exist side-by-side, and where you can choose between movie theaters and community theaters.

In Kirkland you will find an emphasis on the arts, education, business development, natural resources and quality of life. These values are the pride of the community that many work to enhance. Civic groups flourish here, and volunteerism powers community programs and efforts.

Downtown Marina Park encircling Moss Bay features sandy beaches for children to wade in Lake Washington. This park includes a Pavilion and grassy amphitheater where entertainment is provided during July and August on Tuesday and Thursday nights and Wednesday morning entertainment. Marina Park is also home to the downtown Public Marina, the only public marina on Lake Washington where pleasure craft can moor overnight. The M.V. Kirkland, historic Lake Washington ferry also departs for tours of Lake Washington every two hours during the summer (see Lake Washington Cruises for scheduling). This park hosts the Christmas Ships in December and features a bonfire and community caroling in December a unique northwest experience.

Peter Kirk Park is also located in the heart of Downtown, two blocks from the waterfront. Kirkland is baseball USA and hosts teams of all ages in the region. Baseball games continue daily and you can join in at any hour for free. This park also hosts free public tennis courts, a public basketball court, skateboard park, the only eastside outdoor public swimming pool, the library, Performance Center, and senior center, all within the heart of downtown.

Leaving downtown on a 1.2 mile stroll to Carillon Point the visitor passes Marsh Park and David Brink Park, home of public art and a great place for people watching.

Houghton Beach features sandy beaches, play equipment, volleyball, public sculpture and life guard protected swimming area. It is also the home of Cascade Canoe and Kayak rentals.

At the south end of the City is Yarrow Bay Wetlands, a 66 acre urban wildlife preserve is accessible only by canoe or Kayak to view sunsets, mansions on Lake Washington and wildlife in action

Juanita Bay Park is located only 1.5 miles from downtown, a pleasant stroll through historic Kirkland residences. This park is 144 acres recognized by the Audubon Society as one of the region's best Urban Wildlife Preserves. Over a mile of trails affords visitors views of eagles, turtles and beavers at work. Even the uniformed will appreciate the wildlife in action. The first Sunday of each month a park ranger conducts tours pointing out the habitat of northwest wildlife.

Kirkland is a part of the Lake Washington School District.

        Lake Washington School District also has several alternative schools for programs such as school-within-school, home schooling partnerships, and other innovative structures.

        Kirkland's strong local economy is characterized by a healthy mix of small business, corporate headquarters, light industrial and manufacturing, and a growing base of high-tech and home-based businesses. Located in the midst of the booming Eastside economic market, many of Kirkland's businesses indicated expansion plans in the near future. A competitive business climate and high quality of life make Kirkland a desirable location for both local and world-class enterprises.

        Each of Kirkland's economic neighborhoods is distinct. Totem Lake is the drive of Kirkland's economy with a concentration of high-tech, healthcare, and manufacturing and distribution industries. It's also home to Totem Lake Mall. Downtown and Carillon Point house an expanding financial and professional services sector. Neighborhood business districts in Juanita, Houghton and Bridle Trails serve local needs and provide support services to Kirkland regional businesses.

        Short walks from the downtown include heading south on Lake Washington Blvd past downtown parks, mansions and multimillion-dollar condominiums. At l.2 miles, arrive at Carillon Point rich in Kirkland history and home to a 4 star hotel and great restaurants. A second stroll 1.3 stroll north of downtown takes you through the historic homes of Kirkland, great views, and statures culminating at the unique144 acre urban wildlife preserve which also provides historic markers of the area.

        Downtown Kirkland is a Mecca of art Galleries, restaurants and upscale boutiques. Browse through over 24 fine art galleries, 13 apparel stores, 6 bridal stores, an antique mall and a wide range of unique gift shops. There are also over 24 restaurants featuring casual to formal and a wide range of eclectic cuisine.

        Specialty stores include Reasons to Believe, home of nationally renowned Santa Carver Dennis Brown artist in action daily, the largest northwest model train retail center and some of the west coast" most unique shopping experiences. Parking is free on the street and for 4 hours in the municipal garage under the library, located on 3rd, just three blocks from the waterfront.

        Kirkland is a community dedicated to the arts. There are over 27 public art installations, a performing arts center, the Kirkland Arts Center, Studio East and over 24 galleries.

        Kirkland Performance Center, located in Downtown Kirkland, is a 400 seat theatre offering a variety of music, dance, theatre and family programs. For a complete schedule: kpcenter.org

        Located within a mile radius of downtown are 45 pieces of public art, easily enjoyed with a self guided tour.

        Over 24 galleries located within a few downtown blocks host a monthly art walk and artist reception the second Thursday of every month. You will find the best in original art including glass, painting, sculpture, mixed media, bronze, wood, fiber, ceramics and collectable prints.
